Community participation in the NDIS is about empowering people to have more options for how they receive services, support and information. It’s also about helping individuals feel included and valued as part of their local community.

It involves connecting people with other members of their local community, and encouraging them to access the range of activities available that could benefit them. This could include sport and recreation activities, educational programs, employment opportunities or volunteering roles. The aim is to help individuals integrate into their local community so they can reach their goals and live a full life.

Yes, absolutely! NDIS price guides include a range of supports for community participation, such as:

  • Finding or attending recreational activities or events in the community
  • Developing skills to access and utilise mainstream services
  • Building on your existing relationships with family, friends and community organisations.

It’s important to remember that NDIS funding must be used to achieve goals identified in your NDIS plan. So when it comes to community participation, you need to consider how each activity or service will contribute towards your NDIS plan objectives.

When selecting NDIS supports for community participation, think about what services are available in your local area and which ones would be most beneficial for you.
